Wishart State School – A Drawcard to the Suburb

Wishart State School

One of the many attractions of living in the suburb of Wishart is Wishart State School. Built in 1964, this co-educational government primary school is on Morella Street, and caters for students from Prep to Year Six. With a strong multi-cultural foundation, the school motto of “Gain for Endeavour” is strongly adhered to and has helped create a positive presence in the suburb and the community.

Located in a beautiful bushland setting in the heart of Wishart, it places a strong focus on motivating its students to be the best possible versions of themselves. Renowned for excellent academic standards, the school also offer a wide range of extra-curricular activities and has an engaged parents and citizens association. Before being renamed to Wishart State School, it was known as Mt Gravatt South. Henry Wong actually attended this school for his primary years, even representing them as their Chess captain! No wonder this is a leading Wishart school 🙂

The Wishart State School Principal is Yolanda Tognini, who oversees the approximately 900 students enrolled at the campus. In her welcoming address she lauds the facilities at the school, and states that “our curriculum is based on Education Queensland syllabus guidelines and the National Curriculum and is delivered by experienced, caring teachers.”

Wishart State School Catchment

As defined by the Queensland Government, the Wishart State School enrolment is guaranteed to students residing in the catchment area. Applications from outside the catchment area are carefully managed so that capacity isn’t exceeded. The good news is if you move to Wishart and you’re within the catchment zone you’re guaranteed a spot at this amazing school.

Wishart State School Reviews

The diligent and committed staff of 105 team members contribute to the school always garnering strong positive reviews. Many people buy a house or move to the area simply to be in the catchment zone for this school, which we believe is a positive review in itself. The NAPLAN results in Year 3 and 5 that the school achieves are always above average, with students excelling across the board in academic pursuits and extra-curricular activities.

The Wishart State School ranking according to School Catchment, based on NAPLAN results, is number six in the whole of Queensland.

Facilities and Extra-Curricular

The well-equipped campus is technologically advanced, making use of computers in all the classrooms and electronic whiteboards. A large oval is complemented by a heated swimming pool, tennis courts and an adventure playground, which is a huge hit amongst the students. The library is automated and well-stocked, and there is a ‘healthy foods’ tuckshop open five days a week for the students to enjoy. The school is also well-known for its ‘Outside School Hours Care’, which serves to make the lives of parents juggling work and education a lot easier.

There are a number of excellent programs on offer, with music being a very popular one, from choir to instrumental music. Interschool sports are a feature on the calendar, with soccer, netball, volleyball and basketball being offered, as well as swimming, cross country and track and field.
